These three films on Women and Religion, made for the International Centre for Ethnic Studies in Sri Lanka, show how a patriarchal society has interpreted religion – whether it be Hinduism, Buddhism or Christianity, to serve its own interests. Together with the informal structures of tradition and the formal structures of law, they are used to relegate women to a position very much inferior to men.
