New Directions in Indian Dance, contains rare archival material from the early nineties. We see leading names in Contemporary Dance in India today, take their first steps in the direction of experiment- breaking away from their traditional training to create original new works.
Demonstrations of new work alternate with intense discussions as dancer/ choreographers Chandralekha, Astad Deboo, Daksha Seth, Aditi Mangaldas, Maya Krishna Rao, Justin Mccarthy, Navtej Singh Johar pow wow with dance critics Sunil Kothari, Shanta Serbjeet Singh, Uttara Asha Coorlawala. The Workshops culminates in a public performance which enabled the “coming out” of Contemporary dance in India.
